Biography
Chicago born and bred DJ/Producer Joseph Manumaleuna aka DJ Hyperactive needs little introduction to those versed in the history of techno. As one of Daft Punk's "Teachers" and "brother of the humble" according to Resident Advisor, his contributions to the underground continue to span generations.
Honing his skills in the highly influential scene and sound of Chicago in the early 90s, DJ Hyperactive gained instant international recognition and has since gone on to play the most legendary and lauded events and venues over the last 30 years, such as Orbit (Leeds), Liquid Room (Tokyo), Love Parade, Tresor & Berghain (Berlin), Shelter & Smartbar (Chicago), Observe/Scene & Movement (Detroit), Basement & Output (Brooklyn), and the list doesn't stop there.
Over the course of his career, he has produced over 100 release and numerous remixes, including classics such as "Venus" & "Wide Open" (Missile), "25HRs" (Droid), "Music Box" (4Trk), "Reptilian Tank" & "Chicago" (Contact), Drop Bass, Communique, Hybrid, Truncate, Figure, Plus 8, CLR, Blank Code, Impact Mechanics, Illegal Alien, to name a few.
DJ Hyperactive returned to Chicago 2013 to reconnect with his family and musical roots. His story continues with the difference being the experience and perspective that only a true veteran can possess.

"Among Midwest rave fans, DJ Hyperactive is a bit of a legend. Along with Woody McBride, Hyperactive was one of the biggest names in a scene of hard techno and acid that soundtracked barns, warehouses and other abandoned buildings right across the middle of America in the early to mid-'90s."
-
"My influences are somewhere between Chicago jack and Detroit soul, with a bit of Kalamazoo tweak and a healthy love of various broken beat things. Terry Mullan, Traxx, Twonz, Mike Dearborn, DJ Hyperactive, Paris & Billeebob AKA Heckle & Jeckle..."

"Some [of the mixes] that have inspired me the most have been by artists including Jay Denham, Claude Young, and Jeff Mills (all who have tracks are featured in the mix), Mike Dearborn, and DJ Hyperactive. I love how carefree and fearless they were in their mixing and how they were not so focused on technical perfection but rather on creating a compelling story that connects and resonates deeply with dancers."
-
"Chicago saw the rise of acid house sweep the city with its infectious energy throughout the 1980s. Artists such as Ron Trent, the Hot Mix 5 and of course, Frankie Knuckles were solidifying the cities notoriety as a birthplace of a youth movement that would eventually cross oceans and bring disparate groups of people together like nothing before, and listening on the radio were clubbers, music fans and future stars like DJ Hyperactive."
